Anthropic files to go public, and its S-1 shows how AI is priced

Claude's maker filed for a Nasdaq listing. For finance buyers, the useful pages explain the token meter and cost per task.

Anthropic announcement

What happened

Anthropic filed a Form S-1 with the SEC on October 26, 2026 for an IPO of Class A stock on Nasdaq under the symbol ANT. Share count and price range are not set. The filing reports revenue of $16.286 billion for the first half of 2026, against $1.163 billion a year earlier. Net loss was $80.748 billion. Most of that loss came from a $72.388 billion change in the fair value of convertible notes, derivative liabilities, and SAFEs. The operating loss was $693 million.

What it means

Anthropic calls its model “pay-for-intelligence,” where customers pay for usage metered in tokens and priced by model. The S-1 also says Claude Opus 5.5 cut customer cost per task by about 40% compared with Claude Opus 5. Cost per task, not price per token, is the number a buyer needs. A cheaper token that needs three retries costs more.

Why it matters to you

Finance teams that buy Claude now get audited financials and disclosed risk factors. One risk factor says a substantial portion of Anthropic’s revenue and receivables comes from a limited number of customers and channels. Vendor diligence for a major AI supplier is now a public-filings exercise.

What to watch

The share count and price range are not set yet. Watch for the amendment that adds them, then the roadshow and the first trade under ANT on Nasdaq. Watch whether cost per task keeps falling with each new Claude model, and whether those cuts show up in what customers pay.
