- CNBC Binance co-CEO Richard Teng says hackers used fake job interviews, AI tool to steal $6.3 billion in crypto Why it matters: Binance says attackers spent months getting in. In June, an engineer installed a tampered Homebrew package while setting up an AI coding tool. The attackers later moved through internal AI tools to the system that authorizes wallet transactions. - CNBC Apple warns of risks related to AI agents behaving in 'unintended or unpredictable' ways Why it matters: Apple now names agent behavior it does not control as a formal business risk. - TechCrunch Anthropic is working on a system to prove AI models' identity Why it matters: FlashProve is an open source research system that gives a cryptographic proof of which model produced an output. - TechCrunch CrowdStrike to shell out nearly $500M for 2 AI security startups as the market for securing agents takes off Why it matters: CrowdStrike is paying about $400 million for Fiddler AI and about $95 million for Dreadnode, per the WSJ. - TechCrunch Anthropic is still grappling with the economics of compute Why it matters: Compute took 58% of Anthropic's Q3 revenue, up from 48% the quarter before. Revenue per compute dollar fell to 1.72x from just over 2x, as short-term compute deals cost more. Read the story (opens in a new tab)

AI raised its costs and its competition at the same time. Texas elects a governor who wants to pause data centers Gina Hinojosa won on a data center moratorium in the state that holds 27% of planned US data center gigawatts, per Wells Fargo. Her powers start January 19, and the Legislature holds the lasting ones. AI agents booked four Uber rides. Uber's own app still wins Uber says outside AI agents fulfilled four rides and about 500 Eats orders in Halloween week, out of about 320 million trips. Agents are not yet a threat to the app.
