BILL checks invoices against vendor history before you pay them
BILL's new risk intelligence flags odd invoices at approval. A new AI control hub lets finance switch AI features on and off.
What happened
BILL announced new AI capabilities on October 19, 2026. Risk intelligence compares each invoice with the vendor’s billing history and flags deviations during approval, before payment is scheduled. A new AI control hub lets customers monitor the actions BILL’s AI takes and switch AI tools on or off. BILL also launched chat in beta, an external MCP server for AI assistants, AI-assisted onboarding, and an inbox that labels invoices and W-9s. BILL says it flagged about $1.5 billion in payments in fiscal 2026.
What it means
Wrong-amount invoices are an old AP problem. The new part is where the check sits. It runs at approval, where a person still decides, before the money moves. The control hub matters as much. BILL’s own survey found 86% of SMB leaders use AI in financial operations, yet only 19% trust it completely. A switchboard for AI features answers that gap with control.
Why it matters to you
For AP managers, the flag arrives where the approver already works. For controllers, the hub gives one place to see what AI did and turn it off. That is the minimum audit trail for any AI that touches payables.
What to watch
Chat is in beta, so watch for its general release and what it can do on its own. Watch BILL’s next count of flagged payments against the $1.5 billion it reported for fiscal 2026. Watch which AI actions customers switch on in the control hub, and which they leave off. Watch whether trust moves past the 19% of SMB leaders in BILL’s survey who trust AI completely.
