Anrok sells sales tax and VAT compliance to AI and software companies that outgrow Stripe Tax and do not want Avalara. It raised a $55M Series C at a $525M valuation in October 2025, led by Spark Capital, for more than $100M in total (High). It claims 5,500+ users, 150+ countries, and $100B+ in processed volume (High, self-reported). Revenue is not disclosed. The bottom line is that Anrok is the rising challenger to Avalara for software sellers, and its global claims run ahead of its proof.
Michelle Valentine and Kannan Goundan founded Anrok in San Francisco in 2020 (High for the year, Medium for the founders). Brad Silicani, formerly COO, became CEO in January 2026, and Valentine moved to Executive Chair (High for the role, Medium for the timing). The company says 175+ people work there (High, self-reported).
What does it sell?
Anrok covers five compliance jobs on one record: monitoring, registration, calculation, filing and remittance, and reconciliation (High). US sales tax spans 11,000+ jurisdictions, including home-rule cities such as Chicago and Denver. Nexus monitoring reads HR system feeds from ADP, Rippling, Workday, and others to track remote-employee nexus. E-invoicing issues invoices from the same transaction data behind the tax calculation (High).
The target buyer is a software, AI, or ecommerce company, from first sale to pre-IPO (High). Logos include Anthropic, Cursor, Notion, LangChain, and Vanta, and the company says 44% of the Forbes AI 50 use it (High, self-reported). Billing vendors are the distribution. Anrok lists 41 integration pages, including Stripe, Zuora, Tabs, Orb, Campfire, and Rillet (High).
Pricing is partly public. Starter costs $100 per market per month, where a market is one filing jurisdiction, such as one US state (High). E-invoicing, multi-entity, and the reconciliation tool sit on the quoted Custom plan. The model changed twice in twelve months, from a $400 monthly Core plan in December 2025 to per-market pricing by May 2026 (High).
What does it ship for AI agents?
Shipped: Atlas, an in-product AI assistant, entered open beta on July 7, 2026 (High). An MCP server with 30+ tools, including write actions, launched for existing customers on October 21, 2026 (High). Anrok’s Series C post calls tax “deterministic” and limits AI to tasks such as document extraction. This review reads Atlas as a language interface over deterministic tax data, not an AI tax engine (Speculative).
Absent: no payment processing. Anrok remits tax to authorities but moves no customer payments. Atlas names no model provider (High).
What does a buyer need to check?
Coverage breadth outruns depth. The site says 150+ countries, while the Summer 2026 release notes count in-app registration in 13 jurisdictions and local returns in 8 (High). Anrok discloses no Peppol access point and no French approved-platform status, and Avalara holds both. Buyers with e-invoicing exposure must get the country list in writing.
G2 rates Anrok about 4.5 on about 300 reviews, with a Leader badge in Summer 2026 (Medium). Review tags point to international filing that trails US sales tax, slow registrations, and support (Medium). SOC 1 Type II and SOC 2 Type II reports are in place (High). Headline metrics also drift between releases with no stated definition, so growth and relabeling are hard to separate.
Stripe Tax Basic charges 0.5% per transaction where the seller is registered (High). At $1,200 per market per year, Anrok costs less than Stripe only above $240,000 of yearly taxable sales in that market (arithmetic). Small sellers registered in many states pay more with Anrok.
What to watch
- A Peppol or French approved-platform credential. It gives the e-invoicing claim substance. Shows first on the Anrok blog and the DGFiP list.
- Local returns past 8 jurisdictions. Global depth then catches up with breadth. Shows first in help-center release notes.
- A change to how Stripe places third-party tax providers. Stripe is Anrok’s largest channel. Shows first in Stripe docs and at Stripe Sessions.
- G2 support sentiment after California and Colorado start taxing SaaS on January 1, 2027. Shows first in G2 reviews.
