Chargebee sells subscription billing, usage billing, CPQ, revenue recognition, and retention tools to SaaS and AI companies. SaaStr reports that it runs billing for 6,500+ businesses after more than 14 years (Medium). Its 2026 work centers on pricing AI products by credits, actions, and outcomes on one catalog (High). Revenue and funding are not covered in the sources read. The bottom line is a mature billing system that has rebuilt its pitch around AI pricing.

SaaStr names Gorgias, CodeRabbit, Lambda, and Zapier among the companies pricing AI on Chargebee (Medium). SaaStr also reports that Gartner named Chargebee a Leader in recurring billing for a third straight year (Medium). Chargebee connects to 40+ payment gateways, including Stripe, Adyen, and GoCardless.

What does it sell?

The self-serve plan, Flow, includes 100 million usage events a month and a breakeven point of $66,000 in monthly invoicing (High). SaaStr puts the two options at $0 plus 0.80% of invoicing or $99 plus 0.65% (Medium). Enterprise adds multi-entity support, account hierarchies, contract terms, and up to 500 million usage events a month. CPQ, RevRec, and Growth are separate products, with CPQ Lite free for billing customers.

Accounting integrations cover Xero, QuickBooks, NetSuite, and Intacct. Tax integrations cover Avalara and Anrok. Chargebee also offers dunning, A/R aging reports, and e-invoicing inside billing.

What does it ship for AI agents?

Shipped: three MCP servers arrived in May 2026 for Claude, Cursor, and ChatGPT (High). The Knowledge Base server answers API questions, the Onboarding server builds a catalog from a pricing page, and the Data Access server reads live records. Access runs through dedicated API keys or OAuth that mirrors each user’s permissions. Chargebee Copilot answers product questions and looks up billing data inside the app.

Absent: write actions through MCP. The May release describes the Data Access server as retrieving records, and SaaStr reports a Claude connector added in July (Medium). Outcome pricing ingests failed attempts and escalations for analytics but never bills them.

What does a buyer need to check?

The price scales with revenue. A company invoicing $500,000 a month pays about $3,350 a month on the $99 option, by SaaStr’s math (Medium). That fee grows every time invoicing grows. Buyers must model it against Lago, Maxio, and Orb at their expected volume.

AR depth is thin for a finance team. Chargebee covers dunning and aging reports, but it is not a collections or cash application system. Buyers with large B2B receivables must still add an AR tool.
