AR Automation Market: October 2026

AR automation software is a small market, sized at $3.0B to $4.88B for 2025, while the B2B payment flows under it run about $98T to $120T a year. In September and October 2026, analysts re-rated the field, ERP vendors priced their own collections agents, and France's e-invoicing mandate went live.

What did we find?

  • Five research firms size AR automation software at $3.0B to $4.88B for 2025, and six forecast growth of 9.34% to 13.42% a year.
  • Hackett counts a record $1.94T of excess working capital across the 1,000 largest nonfinancial public companies in North America, and receivables are now the largest part at $773B.
  • Nucleus Research named six Leaders in its 2026 AR Technology Value Matrix and placed HighRadius outside the Leader tier.
  • Sidetrade reported 80 agents on firm order at H1 2026 (vendor claim), while Versapay names four AI stages and ships the first two.
  • Oracle lists a Collector Workspace agentic application and a Cash Processing Agent for release 26D, and its agentic applications are priced separately from Fusion Cloud Applications.
  • By 4 October 2026, 75% of French VAT-declaring companies had designated a receiving platform, and the minister said no company will be sanctioned before the end of 2026.
  • Venture money moved to AI-native AR, with Stuut announcing a $52.5M Series B (vendor claim) and Causa Prima raising a $20M seed.

How big is the AR automation market?

The software market is small. The payments flow under it is not. Research firms size AR automation software at $3.0B to $4.88B for 2025.

Firm2025 baseForecastGrowth a year
Mordor Intelligence$3.44B$6.66B (2031)11.64%
Grand View Research$4.8B$12.9B (2033)13.2%
IMARC$3.0B$6.9B (2034)9.34%
Coherent Market Insights$4.81B (2026 base)$11.61B (2033)13.4%
Fortune Business Insights$4.88B$15.17B (2034)13.42%
Custom Market Insights$4.68B$16.01B (2035)13.08%

The estimates differ on scope, not error. Mordor counts AR inside ERP suites. Grand View includes small-business tools. Forecast windows also differ.

Mordor gives the only public hard splits. Solutions hold 67.3% of the market. Cloud deployment holds 79.2%. Large enterprises bring 58.7% of revenue, and North America holds 38.4%.

B2B payment flows run about $98T to $120T a year (Fortune Business Insights). Software counts subscriptions only. Revenue earned on the payment flow lands in payments sizings instead.

How do analysts rate the vendors?

Analysts re-rated the field in the research window for the first time since 2024.

Nucleus is the one open list. Its two notable calls are HighRadius outside the Leader tier and Versapay in the bottom tier.

What pushes companies to buy AR automation?

Working-capital pressure is the strongest trigger (third-party evidence).

  • Receivables are now the largest pool of trapped cash. Hackett’s 2026 North America survey finds a record $1.94T of excess working capital across the 1,000 largest nonfinancial public companies, up 12%. Days sales outstanding worsened 2.1 days and got worse in 40 of 50 industries. Receivables are the largest part at $773B, up 29%, ahead of inventory at $616B and payables at $548B (Hackett via Yahoo Finance).
  • Integration is the main barrier. A PYMNTS and J.P. Morgan study of 100 US mid-market CFOs, fielded July 2026 and bank-sponsored, puts average AR automation at 73% of processes. 38% automate more than 80%. Integration complexity is the barrier for 90%, up from 67%, and upfront cost for 80%. Agentic AI tool use sits at 5% (PYMNTS Time to Cash).
  • Late payment is common. Atradius reports late payment on 22% of US B2B receivables, with about seven in ten companies affected (Atradius US 2026). In Western Europe, about one quarter of invoices are paid late, and credit losses reach 1.6% of invoiced turnover (Atradius Western Europe 2026).

Each buyer looks for something different. For treasurers, cash and liquidity forecasting is the top priority for 63% and the hardest activity for 49%. AI entered their top five priorities for the first time, at 30% (AFP 2026, N=425). For CFOs, Gartner’s survey of 160 finance leaders finds that AP and AR automation pays back within nine to ten months (Gartner, 2026-09-24). That page blocked automated reads, so the text comes from a search index.

Where in the AR process does the value sit?

Cash application holds the clearest return. One practitioner tells buyers to “insist they run your 50 ugliest real remittances” (r/ERP). TreviPay quotes IDC’s Jordan Steele: “Cash application has quietly become the workflow where AI investment pays off fastest and most visibly” (TreviPay) (third-party evidence via vendor claim). Forrester’s 2026-09-30 report names four agentic use cases ready for near-term adoption: collections, cash application, credit extension, and deduction management (RES202572) (third-party evidence).

Delivery into customer AP portals is a cost for sellers. Tabs says its Collections Agent now submits invoices to Coupa, Ariba, and Oracle portals (Tabs, October 2026) (vendor claim).

How far have AI agents really come in AR?

Proof of agents at work stays with one vendor, while claims widen.

  • Sidetrade reported “80 agents on firm order, including 26 Aimie Agents and 54 Customer Agents” at H1 2026 (Sidetrade H1 2026) (vendor claim).
  • Versapay announced “Versapay Intelligence” on 2026-10-08. It names four stages, Augment, Assist, Action, and Autonomous, and ships the first two: an assistant, sentiment scoring, summaries, and AI cash application in beta (release).
  • Esker announced a Kyriba partnership on 2026-10-15 that targets first customer availability in 2027 (Esker).

Agent pricing is a new axis. Sidetrade bundles task volume and token equivalents into the subscription and guarantees compute pricing through multi-year contracts (GlobeNewswire). BlackLine is moving from token-based to outcome-based agent pricing (transcript). Causa Prima takes a cut of the early payments its agents negotiate (Fortune).

Some vendors now let an agent act, not only read. Tesorio’s MCP server lists action tools that send dunning email, create collection tasks, and escalate to a manager, and ChatGPT requires manual confirmation on writes (Tesorio) (vendor claim). When those action tools went live is unverified.

Rillet routes journal-entry approvals by submission source, including “MCP client” (Rillet, September 2026). Stripe ships full write actions on invoices and credit notes, with human confirmation on refunds. After 2026-11-30 it rejects non-agent API keys (Stripe docs). Tabs stays read-only with 31 tools (Tabs docs).

Wider adoption figures vary by who is asked. The Cambridge CCAF 2026 report puts 52% of financial-services respondents in active agentic adoption, with 29% piloting and 23% scaling (CCAF). KPMG finds 62% of US firms with $1B or more in revenue building or deploying agents, across functions (KPMG).

Are ERP vendors closing the gap?

ERP-native AR is getting better, and it now carries a price.

  • Gartner predicts embedded AI in cloud ERP will drive a 30% faster close by 2028 (Gartner).
  • Oracle Fusion 26C reached production on 2026-08-21 with a Collector Workspace Agent and a Customer Billing Agent. Oracle’s AI feature table lists 26D rows for a Billing Operations Workspace, a Collector Workspace agentic application, and a Cash Processing Agent (Oracle docs) (vendor claim). Oracle’s SVP told TechTarget the agentic applications “are priced separately from Fusion Cloud Applications” (TechTarget) (third-party evidence).
  • SAP targets “more than 400 AI agents by the end of 2026” (SAP 6-K).
  • Workday launched an Autopilot Accounting Agent on 2026-10-13. It drafts entries and billing schedules and reminds teams of payment deadlines. It has no receivables, collections, or cash-application scope (Workday).
  • Microsoft Business Central 29.0 and Finance 10.0.49 ship Payables and Expense agents and no receivables agent (BC 29.0, Finance 10.0.49).
  • Ramp launched Ramp Accounts Receivable on 2026-09-22. It covers invoicing from contracts, drafted collections follow-ups, cash application, and revenue schedules. It is US single-entity only, integrates with QuickBooks and NetSuite, and shows no pricing (Ramp) (vendor claim).

Integration still costs buyers. Enterprises report about 40% more internal hours than budgeted (PYMNTS 2026).

What changed in e-invoicing and payments rules?

France went live on 1 September 2026. The receive obligation applies to all businesses from that date, and small and micro businesses must issue e-invoices from 2027-09-01 (impots.gouv.fr guide) (third-party evidence, primary). By 4 October, 75% of VAT-declaring companies had designated a receiving platform. More than 20 million invoices worth over €70 billion had been exchanged. The minister said no company will be sanctioned before the end of 2026 (Bercy, 2026-10-09) (third-party evidence, primary).

The register of approved platforms held 149 numbered approvals on 2026-10-18, unchanged since 2026-08-28. Approved names include Esker, SAP, and Serensia (Quadient). HighRadius, Billtrust, Serrala, Versapay, Emagia, Sidetrade, and Upflow are not on it. Registration needs ISO/IEC 27001, ANSSI SecNumCloud for cloud hosting, and an EU-only data commitment (Compta-Online).

Other regimes moved too.

  • Poland announced on 2026-09-16 that the no-penalty period for KSeF extends to 2027-12-31, pending an amending act (Taxens).
  • The UK plans mandatory e-invoicing for all VAT invoices “from 2029”, with Peppol as the core network (gov.uk) (third-party evidence, primary).
  • The UAE made Ministerial Decision 168 of 2026 on provider accreditation effective on 2026-10-01 (MoF).

Payment rails and rules moved on schedule.

  • RTP carried 150 million payments worth $621B in Q3 2026 (TCH) (vendor claim). FedNow carried 5.0 million payments worth $275B in Q2 2026, averaging $55,000 a payment (Federal Reserve) (third-party evidence, primary).
  • RTP cross-border rules took effect in September, but early-adopter banks pilot “early next year” and BNY targets H1 2027 (Banking Dive).
  • The interchange settlement won preliminary approval on 2026-06-09 for about $38B. The final approval hearing is set for 2026-11-16 (Payments Dive).
  • GENIUS Act rulemaking is under way. The Fed proposed issuer rules on 2026-09-24 (Fed). A Treasury interim final rule on state certification took effect on 2026-09-30 (91 FR 61688). Stripe accepts USDC for US businesses, with a $10,000 per-transaction limit and fiat settlement (Stripe).
  • Nacha raises the Same Day ACH limit to $10M on 2027-09-17 (Nacha).

Where is the money going?

Venture money moved to AI-native AR and to the credit layer.

  • Stuut announced a $52.5M Series B on 2026-10-07, led by Insight Partners with a16z, M12, and Activant. It reports $93M raised in total, 150+ customers, and 81.7% of outbound collections handled with no human involvement (release) (vendor claim). Its Form D of 2026-09-16 shows $67.6M sold (SEC) (third-party evidence, primary). The release does not explain the gap.
  • Causa Prima raised a $20M seed on 2026-10-13, led by Base10 with QED, for agent-to-agent negotiation of payment terms and disputes. It names no customers (Fortune) (third-party evidence).
  • Monk raised a $25M Series A led by Footwork in April 2026 (Axios Pro).

Acquisitions reached the billing and credit layers.

  • BlackLine bought NetNow, a credit application, trade reference, and fraud detection network that claims 85,000+ businesses. The price is undisclosed (BlackLine via StockTitan) (vendor claim).
  • Intuit agreed to buy Sequence, which takes quote-to-revenue for B2B software into Intuit Enterprise Suite and QuickBooks Online Advanced (Intuit) (vendor claim).
  • Stigg bought Received.ai to add contract management and invoicing to its AI usage platform (PR Newswire).
  • ECI bought Drypowder for building materials and construction (Business Wire).

Forrester’s May 2026 “Consolidation Wars” predicts fewer vendors over one to two years (Forrester). It also predicts post-acquisition pricing pressure over the same period.

How was this study done?

Method
Public sources only. Research window 2026-09-10 to 2026-10-18. The study is refreshed monthly, and this edition is the October 2026 refresh of the September edition.
Sample
Desk study. 68 public sources: 6 market sizings, 5 analyst rankings, 4 buyer surveys, vendor releases and docs, filings, and government pages.
Confidence
Every claim comes from a public source and carries a link. Vendor claims are marked (vendor claim) and are unverified. Third-party evidence covers analyst reports, surveys, filings, and government pages. Several analyst and vendor pages blocked automated reads in October 2026, so some claims rest on press releases, wire copies, and placements that vendors announced. The evidence can show what vendors publish and how analysts rank them. It cannot show which vendors win deals, since bank-channel deals never reach open evaluation.
