Microsoft's ERP agents reconcile in bulk and work from Excel and Outlook

Dynamics 365 Finance adds bulk exception handling to its reconciliation agent and puts finance skills where accountants already work.

What happened

Microsoft published its Dynamics 365 ERP update on September 23, 2026. The Account Reconciliation Agent will resolve exceptions in bulk, with limits and notifications. AP automation adds AI invoice capture. A Finance Agent brings skills for reconciliation, data preparation, variance analysis, collections, and BI into Copilot, Excel, Outlook, and Teams. The Dynamics 365 ERP MCP server and the Copilot Cowork plugin are generally available. France e-invoicing and e-reporting support is also generally available.

What it means

Microsoft is meeting accountants in Excel and Outlook instead of asking them to live in the ERP. It is also tightening what agents can do. New role-based controls will let you restrict a user’s rights when that user works through Copilot Cowork or an agent. Six days earlier, Salesforce told customers that outside agents must register their own identities. Two vendors in one week reached the same rule. Agent access gets its own set of rights.

Why it matters to you

Bulk exception handling goes after the long tail of reconciliation, the items that do not match. Collections skills inside Outlook put AR follow-up where the customer emails already sit. Microsoft is also moving beyond its release waves, so change management becomes continuous.

What to watch

Bulk resolution in the Account Reconciliation Agent and the new agent role controls are described as coming, not shipped. Watch for their release dates. Watch whether other ERP vendors give agent access its own set of rights, as Microsoft and Salesforce did in the same week.
