What is lead to cash?

The whole chain of revenue work from the first contact with a buyer to the cash in the bank: lead, quote, contract, order, invoice, collection, cash application and revenue recognition.

How does it work?

Sales tools cover the front of the chain through closed-won. Finance tools start at the invoice. The handoffs between them, quote to contract, contract to billing, billing to collection, are where data gets rekeyed and where most of the delay lives. Order to cash and quote to cash are the finance and sales names for parts of the same chain.

Why does it matter for agents?

This site’s thesis is that go-to-market does not end at closed-won. It ends at cash. Each essay in the Agents in the Revenue Chain series takes one handoff. It asks what an agent can run there and where it needs a gate.

What does it change for the team?

The chain crosses sales, finance and operations, so no one team owns it end to end. An agent that works a handoff needs rules both sides agree to. That is why stop conditions, not models, are the product.
