What is a payment facilitator?

A company that takes on card and bank payment processing for its own customers under one master merchant account, so each customer does not need its own.

How does it work?

A payment facilitator, often shortened to PayFac, signs one agreement with an acquiring bank and then onboards its customers as sub-merchants. The customer gets payments switched on inside the software it already uses. The facilitator earns a share of the processing fee on every transaction.

Why does it matter in this market?

It is how AR and billing vendors earn revenue on the payment flow rather than on software subscriptions alone. The AR Automation Market 2026 study sizes AR software at a few billion dollars a year. It sizes the B2B payment flow under it at around a hundred trillion. A vendor that facilitates payment earns on the second number.

What does a buyer need to check?

Processing rates, which are often custom-quoted. Transaction caps, which can block a large portal payment. Which rails the facilitator covers. The company profiles on this site record what each vendor publishes.
